Switzerland is facing a critical shortage of healthcare staff, with nearly 11,000 full-time equivalent positions currently unfilled across hospitals and other healthcare institutions. This shortage not only strains teams and forces healthcare professionals to work longer hours but also leads to burnout and a declining quality of patient care.
Carewell aims to provide a novel solution to help healthcare institutions manage their internal and external replacements in an integrated platform and be efficiently matched with short-term staff seeking flexible work arrangements. Leveraging an AI-driven matching algorithm, Carewell bridges the gap between healthcare facilities and professionals, offering a solution that supports both the institutions’ organizational needs and the professionals’ desire for a better work-life balance.
The startup is already conducting pilots with key institutions in Vaud and Geneva, including EHC, La Lignière, GHOL, and Butini, demonstrating strong demand and validation for their approach. Carewell aims to position itself in the short-term staffing market estimated at CHF 800M and become the leading platform for healthcare institutions. It will use the CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to accelerate its growth by expanding operations, enhancing platform automation, and training its AI-driven matching algorithm. This funding will also support a pilot in German-speaking Switzerland, advancing national expansion.
The Carewell team comprises four professionals—CEO Josselin Meylan, CTO Mathieu Dubois, Fabian Mösli, AI and product expert, and Soazig Olivin, Chief Healthcare Talent Officer—who together bring extensive expertise in healthcare, technology, and business development.
“Venture Kick has been an incredibly smooth and well-structured journey, built on years of experience working with start-ups — and that can truly be felt from the participants’ side,” commented Josselin Meylan, Co-Founder and CEO of Carewell. Throughout the process, we were supported & challenged, which helped us grow. We are extremely grateful! Venture Kick also plays a key role in strengthening and renewing the Swiss economy. We’re proud to be alumni and look forward to carrying this momentum forward!”
