Lea von Bidder, the designated CEO of Ava, is well known to the general public, but she is far from the only woman to lead a start-up here in Switzerland. Just in time for International Women’s Day, we give an overview of Swiss start-ups with a woman at the top.
According to a study by Harvard Business Review in 2016, only 9% of venture capital-financed start-ups worldwide are managed by a woman. In Switzerland, there are even fewer
This imbalance is due, inter alia, to the choice of studies, which differs among young men and women. Although women make up more than half of all students in Switzerland, they are clearly under-represented in economics and business sciences and MINT subjects (mathematics, IT, natural sciences and technology).
To change that, positive role models are needed – women who are in the front row of successful tech start-ups, such as Lea von Bidder at Ava, Stefanie Flückiger-Mangual at Tolremo, Daniela Marino at Cutiss, Sandra Tobler at Futurae Technologies and Olga Dubey at AgroSustain.
For the first time, startupticker has now recorded Swiss start-ups with female CEOs and ranked them by sector. The map which includes links to 100+ companies will be updated annually; feedback and additions are welcome.
