Successful all-rounders
Dear reader
The technical capability of Voliro’s drones is fascinating: they are equipped with a unique tiltable rotor system that allows them to interact with surfaces at any angle. Voliro’s technology is already in use by major industry players, including Chevron, Holcim and Acuren. However, the team is not satisfied with its technological breakthrough and market success, and has secured USD 12 million in a series A funding round in order to continue its growth.
Other start-ups have also reported several concurrent achievements. PeriVision is rapidly gaining ground thanks to key distribution agreements in Europe and South America, in addition to a clinical trial collaboration with Genentech, new strategic support from Innosuisse and a convertible loan agreement.
Biotech start-up Mabylon has secured CHF 29 million in venture capital since its foundation and an additional CHF 4.3 million in grants from several organisations at home and abroad. Its lead molecule is undergoing Investigational New Drug (IND) studies and will subsequently enter clinical development in Q4 2025 in collaboration with Pfizer through the Pfizer Ignite programme, while retaining all rights to its product.
After 10 months, Sun-Ways has received the green light from the Swiss Federal Office of Transport for a pilot trial of its solar power panels installed along rail tracks. The start-up has won awards in Switzerland and abroad, is working with pilot customers and is in negotiations for further pilot projects around the world.
Even very young companies are mastering the all-round approach: young ETH Zurich spin-off BreezeLabs is developing a solution that allows athletes to improve their training based on an analysis of breathing sounds. It has secured pre-seed funding, is conducting an Innosuisse project with the University of Basel and is also working with its first customer. GenAI start-up Shootify has secured pre-seed funding and a partnership with Italian fashion brand GAS. It had previously completed an Italian accelerator programme for AI-based start-ups.
Important milestones have also been achieved by very different companies: XRnanotech has acquired a German company, PEAX has secured growth capital, SmartFlyer has received an order for 30 of its electric aircraft, and Translation-X has received CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to develop precision medicine to treat autism.
The application phase for the WA de Vigier Foundation and >>venture>> awards has begun. The first kick-off event for >>venture>> will take place in Lausanne next Tuesday. Applications are open for Innovaud and IMD’s LeadiNNg to Scale-up programme until 8 October, and for booths and the pitching competition at Startup Nights until 10 October. The deadline for the SEF.WomenAward expires on 13 October, and finally I would like to draw your attention to the investor matchmaking event organised by Tech4Eva on 10 October.
Have a good weekend.
