OxyPrem, the Zurich-based manufacturer of brain oxygen sensors for preterm-born children, has launched a funding campaign in collaboration with lifescience-specialized crowdinvesting platform Capital Cell. Close to EUR 1.5 million has already been invested or committed to the round.

The 2024 edition of the DayOne Health 4.0 accelerator has kicked off with 15 startups that are among others advancing clinical biomarkers, reinventing clinical trials or enhancing patient experience. Three Swiss startups joined the six-month program. The selected startups will now embark on phase 1 of the program to refine their business models and value propositions.

AC Immune’s PI-2620 obtained Fast Track Designation from the US Food and Drug Administration while Basilea’s antifungal, Isavuconazole, received approval from the European Commission and extension of market exclusivity, triggering a CHF10 million milestone payment. Oculis is on track for its first regulatory submission in Q1 2025. And Vaderis achieved positive results in proof-of-concept study in Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia.

Exogems SA, a pioneering Swiss biotech startup developing innovative therapeutic exosomes derived from microfragmented adipose tissue, completed a CHF 500K fundraising round from business angels. This significant investment will fuel the company's mission to harness the potential of exosomes in treating inflammation, infection, and cancer.

RIVR, the ETH Spinoff developing hybrid mobility robots powered by artificial intelligence to learn and adapt to their surroundings, has closed its $22 million seed funding round led by Jeff Bezos through Bezos Expeditions and HongShan (Sequoia Capital China). The capital increase strengthens the startup’s financial position to further advance its solution.

Piomic received validation for its wound healing device, and SOPHiA GENETICS’ DDM Platform is now CE marked under the European Union's In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation.

Holycode AG, a software development company providing a range of tech solutions for startups and scale-ups, has launched Holycode Labs to support its market expansion into the US. With an office in Miami, this new operations hub will be led by seasoned entrepreneur Terry Fehlmann.

Indivior has selected a compound from the research collaboration with Addex for future development in substance use disorder. Indivior will now undertake all future development of their selected compound. Under the terms of the agreement, Addex is eligible for payment of up to USD 330 million.

The Future of Health Grant (FoHG), a digital health innovation acceleration programme powered by CSS and the EPFL Innovation Park, just held its annual meeting, focusing on the theme of longevity. With a record 213 applications, multi-partner pilot projects enabling promising start-ups to test their solutions, and the addition of 4 influential partners (CSEM, Elca, MedKap and Réseau Delta), to its network of experts, the programme is setting the pace.

Leading European VC redalpine has raised $200M for its seventh Fund, redalpine Capital VII (RAC VII), marking its largest round. Aiming to support up to 20 European early-stage companies, the Fund has already made nine investments. In addition, redalpine is expanding its presence with a new office in London, strengthening its commitment to promoting innovation across Europe.

The first European-Indian Space Startup Competition honored Swiss startup Riverkin as the winner. Meanwhile, KoraLabs, eFrontiers and manukai were selected to join accelerator programs in the United States, Singapore and Germany. These programs will allow the startups to accelerate their development, expand their networks while exploring partnership opportunities.

In a collaborative project leadXpro (LXP) and Cumulus identified small molecules for therapies in oncology and inflammation. Cumulus has licensed the small molecule compounds and associated IP created during this collaboration and will continue the programme to lead optimisation and beyond through its Swiss-based portfolio company. LXP will receive a share in revenues from future commercialisation of the project.
