Stacksync is the latest Swiss startup to join the Y Combinator. The EPFL spinoff led by Ruben Burdin (CEO) and Alexis Favre (CTO) has been gaining momentum lately closing a pre-seed round with YC, Lightbird VC and some angel investors. Powering currently the CRM integrations of its first batch of customers, the startup has ambitious plans.

TeamViewer and Almer launch an out-of-the-box Augmented Reality bundle for the remote support of frontline workers. The solution is already used by pilot customers such as Swisscom and Oerlikon. The strategic partnership between the German global provider of remote connectivity and the Swiss provider of Augmented Reality (AR) headsets includes joint marketing activities.

icotec AG, a Swiss medtech company pioneering the development of implants for spine tumor stabilization, has secured $30m growth financing from MVM Partners, a renowned venture capital firm with over $1 billion assets under management. The financial boost will support icotec’s market growth and strengthen its R&D capabilities to expand the product portfolio into the underserved indications of spinal infection and osteoporosis. 

Exciting new developments are unfolding for Swiss life science startups in the fields of microbiological, oncology and spinal cord research. BioVersys is joining forces with a renowned Infection Research institute in Germany, CDR-Life announces FDA clearance of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for their immunotherapy against solid tumors, and ONWARD Medical is on the verge of starting its clinical trial for treatment after spinal cord injury. 

Effetto Venturi, the Ticino startup focusing on autonomous buoys powered by electric thrusters and controlled by an autopilot, has already achieved recognition worldwide. Its buoys have been used on several continents. The company is now working on cost reduction and the initiation of industrial-scale production as well as a versatile compact water drone to broaden its market presence.

Irmos Technologies, Rematter und Oxara stehen bei der zweiten «Swissbau Startup Challenge» auf dem Sieger-Treppchen. Das Team von Oxara wurde für seinen besonderen Beitrag für eine nachhaltigere Bau- und Immobilienbranche zudem mit dem «Green Award» ausgezeichnet. The panel of judges has nominated 11 startups from 45 submitted applications, for the ZKB Pioneerpreis Technopark 2024. The startups will proceed to the next stage as they contest to win a cheque for CHF 100,000.

Swiss Rockets, an incubator and accelerator specialising in the promotion of biotech startups, has welcomed serial investor Daniel Gutenberg, to its board of directors. Bringing a wealth of experience, marked by investments in 12 unicorns, Gutenberg has also made strategic investments in several Swiss Rockets portfolio companies.

Global digital asset banking group Sygnum has raised more than USD 40 million in an interim close of its latest funding round, which is named the Strategic Growth Round. Sygnum closed 2023 with a USD 100M+ annualised revenue run rate and achieved positive cash flow in Q4.

Lendity Growth is a new offer in the tech financing scene, providing loans to growing tech startups. More than CHF 60 million in loans have been granted across Lendity’s strategies since 2018, with Smeetz, the provider of an AI-powered pricing system for the attraction industry, being the most recent recipient of a Lendity Growth loan.

Based in Lausanne, Onward Therapeutics SA is a global biotechnology company developing innovative immunotherapies for cancer treatment. The company has kicked off the phase 1 clinical trial of OT-A201, a first-in-class bispecific antibody targeting two immune checkpoints.

Zurich-based startup Nuuro is transforming the landscape of personalized nutrition with its innovative AI-powered meal recommendation app aimed at simplifying nutritional choices. The newly launched app now allows individuals to scan menus in various languages and make informed decisions about their meals. Supported by Genesis Ventures, the startup is set to expand its reach and enhance its technology for a global audience.

Four projects have received support from the Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT) in the form of Tech Grants ranging from CHF 50'000 to 100'000: Maven Health and NeoSens from EPFL, as well as Grenat Sorter from HEIG-VD and NADUP from UNIL will be able to continue developing their technologies with the backing of the Foundation. 

Perovskia, an EMPA spin-off, is setting up an ambitious factory in Aubonne (VD) to print a million of its custom-designed perovskite devices every year. Production is set to be operational in a few months. The indoor solar cell company has been gaining ground worldwide, with customers in Japan, Korea, India, Europe and the USA.

Migros Bank and the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) are addressing performance and safety concerns regarding their own operational AI, as well as external cyberattacks. They have chosen Swiss startups to support them: ETH spinoff LatticeFlow teamed up with DEKRA to perform an AI assessment for Migros Bank, and Zurich-based startup xorlab ensures increased email security for CERN.

Under their new collaboration and licence agreement, Novo Nordisk has obtained exclusive rights to develop and commercialize EraCal’s oral-active anti-obesity drug, a first-in-class appetite suppressor. In return, the Swiss startup is eligible for up to €235 million in payments. With its own weight-loss drug Wegovy, Novo Nordisk has become the most valuable company in Europe in 2023.

Taurus’ digital asset trading facility TDX and its financial services at large are now open to retail clients following FINMA approval. In addition to professional clients, retail clients can now create an account and trade digital assets and tokenized securities. Taurus also announces a new list of issuers that selected TDX as a preferred venue to trade their digital securities, including well-known Investis Group, la Mobilière, Qoqa, SCCF, Swissroc, and Teylor.  

Swiss-Mile, a spinoff of ETH Zurich, is bringing artificial intelligence to the world of robotics, enabling them to learn and adapt to different environments. The startup has developed a hybrid system that combines wheels and legs, allowing robots to navigate and perform tasks across various terrains. The company has already secured paying customers and a financing round of CHF 3.5 million, pushing it into the commercialisation phase.

Dank zahlreichen neuen Kunden konnte Yokoy den Umsatz im vergangenen Jahr deutlich erhöhen. Wie viele andere gut finanzierte Scale-ups auch verbesserte das Fintech zudem die Profitabilität. Allerdings kam das Schweizer Startup dabei ohne tiefgreifende Sparrunden aus.

The b-rayZ Data Adaptive Neural Artificial Intelligence technology is poised to redefine AI capabilities in breast imaging, offering a groundbreaking Custom AI framework for efficient, accurate, and sustainable mammography screening and diagnostics. The technology has obtained the CE Mark, paving the way for the startup to offer a complete end-to-end AI platform solution for breast imaging.

DOPPL, a leader in organoid engineering for disease modelling and personalised medicine, has received a Tech Growth loan of CHF 500,000 from the Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT), while Rea Diagnostics, specialising in the detection of premature births, has received a Tech Seed loan of CHF 100,000.

OneTwenty AG, a medtech startup offering a diabetes management platform, has closed its first financing round led by renowned health technology VC Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures. The investment will propel the commercialisation of its AI-driven algorithms that enhance the functionality of diabetes devices.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the launch of Phase 1 of the “first-in-human” clinical trial for Synendos Therapeutics’ lead candidate, SYT-510. It is a first-in-class agent aimed at restoring healthy brain physiology in patients suffering from Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders. The clinical trial will investigate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of the drug candidate.
