Spirecut, a pioneer in the field of ultrasound-guided hand surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger, has established Clinique de la Main in Geneva as Switzerland's first Center of Excellence. Designated to provide training to Swiss surgeons adopting the SonoSurgery technique, the hub also supports research into additional conditions treatable with Spirecut’s Sono-Instruments®.
Founded in 2020 by Professor Frédéric Schuind, Spirecut is a medtech company dedicated to the development of innovative surgical instruments for hand surgery. Their SonoSurgery technique allows to effectively treat carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger without the need for traditional incisions. The company’s surgical instruments are patented and manufactured in Switzerland.
Supported by the Canton of Basel-Landschaft's “100 fürs Baselbiet” initiative and a team of seven employees, the startup has conducted over 2,000 successful treatments in Switzerland, Belgium, the UK, Portugal, Italy and the United States, “Our solution is used weekly worldwide, demonstrating its effectiveness and growing adoption within the medical community”, commented Prof Frédéric Schuind, the CEO of Spirecut.
Spirecut and Dr. Flavien Mauler from the Clinique de la Main in Geneva have recently opened the first Center of Excellence in Switzerland dedicated to minimally invasive ultrasound-guided surgical treatment. The centre aspires to become a hub for SonoSurgery in Switzerland and globally, attracting patients seeking improved surgical outcomes. Thanks to this collaboration, patients at the clinic can already benefit from an innovative approach based on the SonoSurgery technique.
Dr. Flavien Mauler, who has undergone training with Prof. Fabian Moungondo over the past few months, has observed live surgeries at the University Hospital Erasme in Brussels, Belgium. This collaboration ensures that the techniques are implemented to the highest standards and that knowledge is effectively transferred to local medical professionals. The centre is currently admitting patients through ambulatory services.
“Spirecut prioritises high-quality training and the efficient adoption of the SonoSurgery technique by surgeons. Accrediting a dedicated Centre of Excellence allows us to provide specialised training, support research into other conditions, and ensure our stakeholders achieve the best possible outcomes from our surgical instruments”, explains Schuind.
