Aiming to revolutionize industrial heating processes with state-of-the-art solid-state Radio Frequency technology, Solidwatts has obtained €850k pre-seed capital to achieve this goal and expand its market reach. The funds will further flow into hiring and strengthening partnerships with industry players.
Led by Evercurious VC, with the participation of Switzerland’s Kickfund, COREangels Climate and prominent angel investors, the closing of a pre-seed funding round marks a significant milestone in SolidWatt’s mission to revolutionize industrial heating processes and drive sustainability in global industries.
SolidWatts was founded in 2022, the startup has developed Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) that enable industrial process heating through microwave and radio frequency technologies, offering a clean and efficient alternative to fossil fuel-based heating. Their technology provides scalable power from 10 kW to megawatt levels with over 85% energy efficiency, enabling electrification of industrial processes across diverse applications like food processing, chemical production, plastics recycling, and green steel production.
The funds will be used to accelerate product development towards Megawatt power levels to meet the growing demand for more efficient and less polluting forms of large-scale industrial heating. Additionally, the funds will support the company’s growth by recruiting specialist engineering and business talent, as well as strengthen partnerships with key industry players to broaden market reach and accelerate the transition to clean, electrified industrial processes.
"This investment empowers the development and deployment of our technology, helping industries significantly reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and to slash CO2 emissions. Industrial heating processes account for 20% of global energy demand and 10% of worldwide CO2 emissions, producing 3.6 billion tonnes annually. Electrifying even 1% of these processes using SolidWatts’ RadioFrequency technology could eliminate 36 million tonnes of CO2 each year - the equivalent of removing 7.8 million cars from the road," says Markus Aicheler, CEO of SolidWatts.
