Swiss start-ups make themselves heard

Good technique – weak marketing. This prejudice is practically as old as the Swiss start-up scene itself, but entrepreneurs and supporters learn and they are now providing more of a stir at trade fairs and international conferences. A good example is the SWISS Pavilions at CeBIT in March: the pavilions will have twice as much exhibition space as last year and start-ups will be prominently represented.
Swiss firms are also bound to attract attention at the Mobile World Congress, the leading international trade fair on mobile computing, which takes place next week in Barcelona. No less than 10 press releases on new offers are in the pipeline: startupticker has already published those from OneVisage and Faveeo. In addition, start-ups are advertised on the specially created website www.morethanchocolate.ch.
Swiss fledgling companies are also represented very prominently next week at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Ten games are nominated for awards to be presented at the world’s largest professionals-only game industry event.
International media attention is no surprise. ‘If Apple made a guitar, it would look like this’ was the headline in Wired, referring to the guitars from Lucerne start-up Relish Guitars.
Swiss media is also giving start-ups some room. Until Wednesday, Swiss television is seeking start-ups that will reveal their recipe for success. The short videos will be released by SRF as part of an initiative that should open the door to the economy for young people. Please refer to our article on how to get your start on television.
Another good opportunity to present your start-up is at the Startupfair, which this year will take place on 2 July in Zurich.
In addition, there was good news this week with two start-ups attracting investment: IT company Easysys received CHF4.5 million from investors and biotech firm Prexton Therapeutics CHF9.5 million.
