Climeworks Mammoth carbon capture plant

Four Swiss startups have secured a spot on the Time World’s Top 250 Greentech Companies of 2025, with Climeworks and Planted in the second and fourth rank. With two additional Swiss companies on the list, this strong representation demonstrates Switzerland’s strong leadership and commitment to promoting sustainable actions to combat climate change and support environmental progress.

In collaboration with data firm Statista, Time has published a ranking of Top 250 GreenTech Companies of 2025. More than 8,000 companies developing products, services, or technologies to reverse the impact of human activities on the planet were evaluated based on their positive impact, financial strength, and innovation. The selected 250 top companies hail from over 30 countries on six continents.

While American firms dominate the rankings with 11 out of the top 20, Switzerland shines with two companies securing spots in the top 5. Climeworks secured the second position. Founded in 2009, the Swiss startup has grown into a global solutions provider for companies aiming to reach their net zero emissions targets. The company has deployed its carbon capture technology at unprecedented scale; it’s new Mammoth facility in Hellisheidi, Iceland, captures 36,000 tons annually at peak capacity, and sells carbon credits to 160 customers, including JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Stripe, Shopify, and Lego.

Planted Foods, which specializes in plant-based meat alternatives, ranked fifth. Established in 2019, the ETH Spinoff uses proprietary structuring and fermentation technologies to create meat-like products from plant proteins. Their products are designed to mimic the taste and texture of traditional meat while being healthier and more sustainable. Available in over 6,100 restaurants and more than 8,700 retail outlets across several European countries, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, the UK, and the BeNeLux region, the company has continued to expand its product portfolio and production capacity. In addition to its main facility in Kemptthal, the company has opened a new production site in Germany to serve the growing demand.

Two additional Swiss startups made it to the list. H55 and Insolight have been ranked 178 and 188, respectively. Based in Sion (Valais) and Canada, H55 develops sustainable and certified electric propulsion and battery management systems for the aviation industry. Insolight from Lausanne developed insolagrin, a dynamic agrivoltaic system that replaces traditional plastic tunnels used in agriculture with translucent solar modules. The company has secured key partnerships across Europe and deployed more than 30,000 m2 / 2 MWp of Insolagrin installations.
