Last weekend the first Startup Weekend in Biel took place. 30 people joined the event at Innocampus and worked on seven projects. The winner is a project aiming to reduce the administrative work overload of physicians.
Startup Weekend is a nonstop entrepreneurial event based on sharing ideas, knowledge exchange and co-working. In 54 hours from Friday till Sunday the participants go through the complete process of developing a startup, supported by a professional team of well-known finance, marketing, strategy and feasibility professionals.
In Biel 30 highly motivated and dynamic people attended the event at Innocampus. And a great mix between the young 20 something designer and the 60 years old engineer with patented projects.
15 projects were pitched on Friday night (but 8-10 other projects were not pitched), which is a great ratio compared to other Startup Weekend editions. 11 got some support from other participants (4 projects were abandoned in the meantime) and the 7 most supported projects were selected.
An intensive weekend followed and on Sunday evening the jury ranked the 3 winning projects as follow:
- Synopses: reducing the administrative work overload of doctors and helping them to provide higher healthcare services
- BeerNation: delivering beer discovery packages from local breweries
- Fashion Hunters: connecting thousands of young designers with fashionista
The jury was comprised of 6 entrepreneurs/investors: Nicolas Berg, Mike Schwede, Vincent Tresno, Urs Guggenbühl, Felix Kunz and Pierre-Alain Schnegg.
A comprehensive report about the event was published by Sébastien Flury on his blog Startupolic.
