MIT Technology Review selected Apheros' co-founder and CEO Julia Carpenter for their "35 innovators under 35" list, while Jaipur Robotics joins Techstars Berlin, securing a USD120k investment, coaching and more. Winning spots in other programs, Niatsu and Rhovica will, too, get access to expert and financial support to accelerate their development.

Julia Carpenter, co-founder and CEO of ETH Spinoff Apheros has been recognized by MIT Technology Review's “35 Innovators Under 35”, an award and list which recognizes exceptionally talented young innovators whose work has the potential to transform the world. Apheros’s metal foam technology offers lightweight, sustainable foam structures with completely open porosity and unparalleled surface area, surpassing traditional solutions by a factor of thousand, which translates into exceptional heat transfer and flow properties. This solution offers a vast potential in aerospace, automotive, and construction industries. 

Jaipur Robotics selected for Techstars accelerator in Berlin
Jaipur Robotics, a startup based at Tecnopolo Ticino, has earned a spot in the Techstars accelerator program in Berlin. Developing AI software for waste recognition and sorting, Jaipur's aim is to optimise waste recycling and energy recovery. The startup recently secured a contract with a major waste management company in Switzerland and is conducting a paid pilot project in a large plastics recycling centre in Italy. Participation in Techstars will provide Jaipur Robotics with a 120,000 USD investment, intensive coaching and mentorship, office spaces in Berlin, and access to a global network, positioning the company to scale its impact and revolutionise waste recycling on a larger scale.

Rhovica wins Helbling Venture Challenge
Based in Bern, Rhovica Neuroimaging AG is focused on improving the emergency treatment of patients with increased brain pressure, such as those with severe head trauma or intracranial bleeding. The company has won the Helbling Venture Challenge, selected out of initial 90 applicants. The company will benefit from a consulting package for product development worth CHF 25,000 with one of Helbling's international locations in Switzerland, Boston, San Diego, or Munich. Initiative by Helbling Technik, a leading product innovation and engineering development company, the challenge supports startups with innovative hardware and hardware-enabled software ideas. 

Niatsu selected for EIT Food program 
Niatsu, an early-stage startup focused on automating the calculation of carbon footprints for food and beverage products, has been selected for the EIT Food Seedbed Incubator program. The six-month initiative helps early-stage ventures validate their innovations, receive business coaching, and access €10,000 in equity-free funding. Naitsu will join a network of industry experts to accelerate its journey towards transforming the global food system. 

Dimitrios Terzis wins Rodolphe and Renée Haenny Prize
Dimitrios Terzis, a research and teaching associate at the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics at EPFL, was awarded the Rodolphe and Renée Haenny Prize for 2024.  His research focuses on bio-cementation and sustainable solutions for soil stabilization, contributing to innovative practices in civil engineering. Terzis is also the co-founder of MeduSoil, a startup that specializes in bio-based technologies for underground construction. His work exemplifies the integration of environmental responsibility with technical innovation.

AI cry analysis powered Maxi-Cosi See Pro awarded
Maxi-Cosi See Pro, featuring Zoundream's cry analysis technology, has won the Pueri Trends Innovation Award in the Technology category for being the first baby monitor to leverage AI to translate a baby’s cries. Zoundream specializes in the development of solutions for continuous, non-invasive, home monitoring of infants’ health — from translating the meaning of baby cries to early detection of potential neurodevelopmental disorders and pathologies. Maxi-Cosi See Pro was launched in September 2023.
