The Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT) is awarding two loans to HemostOD and its innovative solution for producing blood platelets rapidly and on a large scale, and to Emissium and its software that enables users to monitor, improve and reduce their electricity-related emissions. The former is receiving a Tech Growth loan of CHF 500,000, the latter a Tech Seed loan of CHF 100,000.

HemostOD produces platelets rapidly and on a large scale

Every year, 8 million platelet concentrates are transfused worldwide. This demand is growing by 5% a year, and is likely to increase further with the ageing of the population and the growing incidence of some cancers. Today, platelets come exclusively from donations, which are in decline. This lack of availability comes in addition to the risk of contamination when platelets are used.

HemostOD is developing a unique solution that aims to produce universal blood platelets quickly, on a large scale and at a lower cost for onco-haematology patients, particularly those who are refractory to donor blood platelets or who have undergone a haematopoietic stem cell transplant.

HemostOD's solution is based on an innovative fusion of cellular engineering and microfluidics. The 500,000 Tech Growth loan from FIT will help the company to set up its first pilot production line.

Emissium develops software to track and reduce electricity carbon emissions by up to 50%.

Using proprietary software to track, compare and reduce electricity carbon emissions by combining blockchain technology with artificial intelligence, Emissium aims to revolutionise professional electricity consumption and emissions accounting. The software's added value lies in its level of precision and the data it contains. Emissium has extremely reliable models of electricity networks and, thanks to high-quality data from public, semi-public and private sources, can accurately determine electricity-related emissions at the regional level with data every 15 minutes.

This granularity enables professionals to identify their sources of electricity consumption according to the time and place of use, manage the emissions they produce, compare them and even communicate them if they so wish, while demonstrating a high degree of transparency and responsibility. Through the use of AI and machine learning, the aim is to enable them to reduce their electricity emissions by up to 50%, while helping to decarbonise the electricity grid up to 5 times faster.

Thanks to the 100,000 Tech Seed loan from FIT, Emissium will be able to accelerate the market launch of its software and hire a software engineer to help deploy an application programming interface (API) and a graphic designer to ensure a smooth, easy-to-use interface.
