ClimateTech startups drive change in marine and energy sectors

rrreefs inks 3-year launches Pujada Bay Reef Regeneration Project
Cleantech startup rrreefs, which is focused on rebuilding and regenerating coral reefs using innovative, modular structures designed with 3D printing technology, has entered a three-year partnership with Stiftung Fourfold, a Swiss family foundation that aims for a healthy and equitable world that respects all forms of life. Through their support, the company has launched of the Pujada Bay Reef Regeneration Project, a pioneering three-year initiative that will regenerate coral reefs and support local communities in the Philippines. This project will create a lasting model where marine conservation and economic opportunity go hand in hand. By combining cutting-edge reef rehabilitation technology with community-driven action, we’re tackling both the ecological and socio-economic challenges that come with coral reefs decline. Moreover, with Fourfold’s support, rrreefs is building a sustainable, locally led reef regeneration model in collaboration with key partners like Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), the Pujada Bay Protected Landscape and Seascape Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), and local fisherfolk organizations.

Ecco2 successful results in major project
ECCO2 Solutions provides data-based IoT/AI solutions through its product ‘Building Intelligence’ to help reduce heat energy consumption in buildings. The company joined forces with the Cité Derrière cooperative to help it reduce its environmental impact and gradually phase out fossil fuels. As part of this initiative, ECCO2 Building Intelligence technology has been successfully deployed across the entire real estate portfolio. This has enabled real-time monitoring of energy consumption, which has led to better use of resources and cost savings at the same time.

The project comprises 63 buildings with a total area of over 120,000 m². From September to November 2024, 90% of the portfolio was equipped with ECCO2 technology for heating optimization. Commissioning went quickly and smoothly, and a total of 1,496 indoor climate sensors were installed. Although the heating season is still ongoing, the initial results are already showing a clear impact. Measurable energy savings have been identified in 70% of the portfolio, with 16% of the buildings already achieving savings of over 20%. This promising beginning inspires confidence in achieving even greater energy savings by the end of the heating season. ECCO2 also monitors the total CO2 emissions reduced, supporting Cité Derrière's progress toward its decarbonization goals. Furthermore, the gathered data will play a pivotal role in driving continuous improvements and ensuring smooth, efficient operation in the future.
