The question of whether companies will be successful in innovation largely depends on their access to the necessary financial resources. Particularly interesting in this context are those sources that directly benefit the companies and do not result in a dilution of their own company shares (i.e. non-dilutive) and/or show a non-monetary added value which is potentially significant. Such instruments and possibilities do indeed exist, and will be presented. Special Focus: Changes in EU grants - SME Instrument & Accelerator
Since the beginning of 2017, Switzerland has had access to two financing instruments through the EU program «Horizon 2020»: the SME Instrument and the FTI. With those instruments up to 3 Mio EUR can be obtained, with or without the participation of academic partners. This year, the EU made some changes to the program allowing for equity co-investment up to 15 Mio EUR. The new Swiss Venture Capital Report was published on 26 January. It analyses 304 financing rounds closed in 2020 and includes further article such as an interview with Michael Hengartner, President of the ETH Board, and a list of Swiss "soonicorns".
