Rhovica Neuroimaging KLG
External ventricular drains (EVDs) are thin catheters that are inserted into brain cavities (ventricles) to measure intracranial pressure and drain fluid to decrease it. EVDs are mostly placed in an emergency, life-threatened patients. Their placement is a frequent procedure (>250.000/y). The main challenge is to choose the correct trajectory through the brain, which is often done "blindly" by using external cranial landmarks only. Consequently, there is a risk of misplacement and severe damage. Once in place, CT scans are performed to monitor the ventricle size, with associated risks and costs. The SoNav EVD catheter from Rhovica has an integrated array of sensors, enabling navigated, safe, fast, and cost-saving placement and real-time ventricle size monitoring at the ER or ICU bedside.
