The „Eidgenössische Stiftung zur Förderung schweizerischer Volkswirtschaft durch wissenschaftliche Forschung“ supports start-ups since 1996 with interest-free loans. The foundation decided recently to grant a loan to One Drop Diagnostics.

The holiday season might be a good opportunity to prepare the application documents for start-up awards. Several awards are open for application. We publish a list of prizes with application deadlines in the coming three months.

GeNeuro SA announces that its clinical program in Schizophrenia led by Professor Marion Leboyer at the University of Creteil in Paris has been awarded more than US$ 700,000 by the Stanley Medical Research Institute to support a clinical trial in schizophrenic patients with a monoclonal antibody targeting a protein of endogenous retroviral origin.

Arviem, a Zug-based start-up providing global cargo monitoring services, announces the successful closing of a CHF 1.35 million financing round. To raise this amount, arviem partnered with the online startup-investmentplatform investiere. About half the funds raised were provided by private business angels from the investiere-community. The other half came from investiere’s co-investors Swisscom Ventures and Zürcher Kantonalbank.

At the beginning of 2014, four further Swiss Competence Centers for Energy Research (SCCERs) are due to be launched. The Steering Committee, made up of representatives from the Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI and Swiss National Science Foundation, has approved funding for the energy competence centers operating in the action areas ‘Grids and their components’, ‘Efficient concepts, processes and components in mobility’, ‘Biomass’ and ‘Economy-environment-law-behaviour’.

Seedstars World (SSW) is a worldwide startup competition in emerging markets and fast growing startup scenes. The SSW team travelled to 20 different countries in 2013 to bring back to Switzerland on February 4th 2014 the best entrepreneurs for a grand final and conference open to the public.
