The number of Swiss deeptech start-ups is high in absolute terms, as confirmed by a new study and this week’s news.
Dear reader
With more than 120,000 devices sold, Hilo – founded originally in 2018 under the name Aktiia – has established itself as a stand-out in the healthtech space. Hilo’s cuffless blood pressure monitoring device integrates advanced AI algorithms with extensive datasets, thus extending the possibilities of blood pressure measurement. The company has now completed a financing round of more than USD 42 million.
Sustainable PET-to-raw-material recycling company DePoly has secured a further USD 9 million in its seed round. It has received a total of approximately USD 25 million in venture capital, plus USD 6 million in grants. The next step is the launch of a 500-tonne-per-year plant in Monthey this summer.
Another well-known Swiss scale-up, ANYbotics, has secured Switzerland Global Enterprise’s Export Award.
Given the diversity of these scale-ups, it’s not surprising that Switzerland performs well in a recent deeptech study. According to the DeepTech Index 2025, only six, significantly larger, countries have more deeptech start-ups than Switzerland, with France in eighth place behind Switzerland.
The high number of deeptech start-ups is one of Switzerland’s greatest strengths, yet only a few are widely known. Nevertheless, they are successful; for example, green hydrogen company NovaMea has secured USD 9 million in a series A round. Aerospec – the EPFL spin-off’s technology detects the chemical composition of air pollution – has attracted investors and partners. Demosquare has developed the first AI agent dedicated to public affairs and is expanding into the EU. Nine start-ups providing sustainable solutions in areas such as water, construction and food have been selected by the EIT Food Accelerator, the Swiss Prime Site Accelerator programme and Tech Tour.
Startup Days will have 18 selected start-ups pitching on 14 May. We will be there, as well as at the Collective Gathering the day before, where Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin will deliver a keynote. You can also meet us next week at Swiss Biotech Day and at SwissHacks Celebration & Networking Night.
I would also like to draw attention to the public voting for the Top 100 Swiss Startup Awards and the Innerschweizer Startup Preis, which offers total prize money of up to CHF 410,000. The deadlines for Kickstart and the DayOne Accelerator are approaching. Tech4Eva’s selected start-ups for 2025 can be met at the opening event on 12 May.
Have a good weekend.
