The award is presented annually in early January on the occasion of the New Year's event of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. It is granted to the top of the previous year.Â
The Watt d'Or does not take the form of prize money, and there is no table of rankings. All projects and players or organisations receive an award in the form of a certificate and a trophy.
The Watt d'Or will draw attention to each award-winning project, person or organisation, and this means that holders will be able to use the award for advertising or PR purposes. In other words, they will not only receive a certificate and a trophy, but will also be able to enhance their image and benefit from media presence.
Criteria
The 2025 Watt d'Or may be awarded to projects, individual players and organisations that meet the following criteria:
Projects must have been realised in the period between August 2023 and July 2024, or the activities of private individuals or organisations must have taken place during that period.
Projects must be of an innovative nature and have to demonstrate significant progress versus the previous status of technology.
A distinct energy-related benefit must be identifiable as far as Switzerland's energy policy is concerned, or benefits must result in terms of comfort or economic viability, or in the social sphere. A certain degree of priority will be attached to projects that incorporate various aspects of energy, environment, technology, economic viability, etc.
Projects or activities on the part of individual players or organisations should not only be of interest to specialists but should also be comprehensible and attractive to the general public.
